Athanasios Kafkalides

Athanasios Kafkalides (1919–1988) was a renowned neurologist and psychiatrist from Greece. He is best known for his pioneering work in the field of psychiatry, particularly in the development of the concept of autopsychognosia with psychedelic drugs.

Athanasios Kafkalides was born in 1919 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He completed his medical studies at the University of Athens in 1942. After graduation, he specialized in neurology and psychiatry, and furthered his studies in these fields in Paris and London.
