Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves are a professional baseball team based in Atlanta, Georgia. They are a member of the National League (NL) East division in Major League Baseball (MLB). The team has a rich history, having been established in 1871, originally based in Boston, and known as the Boston Red Stockings. The team has undergone several name changes and relocations, becoming the Atlanta Braves in 1966.

History

The Braves are the oldest continuously operating professional sports franchise in America. The team's early years in Boston saw them playing under various names such as the Red Stockings, Beaneaters, Doves, and Rustlers before settling on the Braves in 1912. During their time in Boston, they won the World Series in 1914.

In 1953, the franchise moved to Milwaukee, where they were known as the Milwaukee Braves. During their 13-year stint in Milwaukee, the Braves won another World Series in 1957, led by stars like Hank Aaron and Warren Spahn.

The team moved to Atlanta in 1966, where they have been based ever since. The Atlanta Braves enjoyed a particularly successful period during the 1990s and early 2000s, winning 14 consecutive division titles from 1991 to 2005 under the management of Bobby Cox and featuring players like Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and Chipper Jones. They won the World Series again in 1995.

Stadium

The Braves have played in several stadiums over their history. Their current home is Truist Park, which opened in 2017 and is located in the Cumberland neighborhood of Cobb County, just outside Atlanta. Prior to Truist Park, the Braves played at Turner Field, originally built for the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Rivalries

The Braves have several notable rivalries, most prominently with the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, and the Washington Nationals, all of whom are also in the NL East. The rivalry with the Mets, in particular, has been very competitive since the late 1990s.

The Atlanta Braves are active in community outreach and charitable efforts, primarily through the Atlanta Braves Foundation. The foundation supports various community initiatives including health, education, and recreation programs for youth.
