Auchroisk distillery

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Auchroisk Distillery is a whisky distillery located in Banffshire, Scotland. It was established in 1974 by International Distillers & Vintners (IDV), a subsidiary of Grand Metropolitan, to ensure a steady supply of malt whisky for their blended brands.

History[edit | edit source]

The Auchroisk Distillery was initially designed to produce a light style of whisky using unpeated malt, which was suitable for blending. The first whisky was produced on 30th January 1974. The distillery was expanded in 1981 to double its production capacity.

In 1986, the first single malt whisky was released under the name The Singleton of Auchroisk. The name was changed to Auchroisk in 2001 to avoid confusion with the Singleton brand owned by Diageo, which had acquired IDV in 1997.

Production[edit | edit source]

Auchroisk Distillery uses a combination of wash and spirit stills in its production process. The distillery has a capacity of producing approximately 3.7 million litres of whisky per year. The whisky is matured in a combination of American oak and Sherry casks.

Products[edit | edit source]

Auchroisk produces a range of whiskies, including the Auchroisk 10 Year Old and the Auchroisk 30 Year Old. The distillery also contributes to the production of blended whiskies such as J&B and Johnnie Walker.
