Augsburg is a city in Bavaria, Germany. It is the third-largest city in Bavaria after Munich and Nuremberg, with a population of approximately 295,135 as of 2020. Augsburg is an urban district and home to the University of Augsburg and the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences.

Augsburg was founded in 15 BC by the Romans under the emperor Augustus. It is one of Germany's oldest cities. The city became a Free Imperial City during the Holy Roman Empire and was a major center of trade and commerce in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

Augsburg is located at the confluence of the Lech, Wertach, and Singold rivers. The city is situated in the region of Swabia in the south-west of Bavaria.
