Aurora is a town in Brookings County, in the state of South Dakota, United States. The town was founded in 1880 and has a population of 532 as of the 2020 census.

Aurora was established in 1880 during the expansion of the railroad network in South Dakota. The town was named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora. The establishment of the railroad was a significant factor in the town's early growth and development.

Aurora is located at coordinates 44°16′N 96°40′W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.49 square miles (1.27 km²), all of it land. The town is situated at an elevation of 1,631 feet (497 meters) above sea level.
