Avión tequila
Avión Tequila is a brand of tequila produced in Mexico. It is made from blue agave plants that grow in the highlands of Jalisco, a state in the western part of the country. The brand was founded by Ken Austin in 2009 and was later acquired by Pernod Ricard, a French company that is one of the world's largest producers of spirits.
History[edit | edit source]
Ken Austin, a former executive at Seagram, founded Avión Tequila in 2009. He was inspired to create the brand after visiting the highlands of Jalisco and tasting the blue agave that grew there. Austin partnered with the Lopez family, a third-generation agave grower, to produce the tequila.
In 2014, Pernod Ricard acquired a majority stake in Avión Tequila. The acquisition was part of Pernod Ricard's strategy to expand its portfolio of premium spirits.
Production[edit | edit source]
Avión Tequila is made from blue agave plants that are grown in the highlands of Jalisco. The plants are harvested by hand and the agave nectar is extracted from the pina, the heart of the plant. The nectar is then fermented and distilled to produce tequila.
The tequila is aged in oak barrels for a period of time that varies depending on the type of tequila. Avión produces several types of tequila, including silver, reposado, and anejo.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Avión Tequila has been well received by critics and has won several awards. In 2012, it was named "World's Best Tasting Tequila" at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
In popular culture[edit | edit source]
Avión Tequila gained widespread recognition after it was featured in the television series Entourage. In the show, one of the main characters becomes a spokesperson for the brand.
