The Baháʼí Faith is a monotheistic religion founded by Baháʼu'lláh in the 19th century in Persia (modern-day Iran). It emphasizes the spiritual unity of all humankind and teaches that all major religions have the same spiritual source and come from the same God. The Baháʼí Faith has spread globally and has adherents in virtually every country.

The Baháʼí Faith originated with the Báb, who announced in 1844 that he was the bearer of a message destined to transform the spiritual life of humanity. The Báb's teachings laid the groundwork for Baháʼu'lláh, who in 1863 declared himself to be the one prophesied by the Báb. Baháʼu'lláh's writings form the core of Baháʼí scripture.
Beliefs[edit | edit source]
The central teachings of the Baháʼí Faith include the oneness of God, the oneness of religion, and the oneness of humanity. Baháʼís believe in the equality of men and women, the elimination of all forms of prejudice, and the harmony of science and religion. They also advocate for universal education and the establishment of a global commonwealth of nations.
Sacred Texts[edit | edit source]
The primary texts of the Baháʼí Faith are the writings of Baháʼu'lláh, including the Kitáb-i-Aqdas and the Kitáb-i-Íqán. Other important texts include the writings of the Báb and `Abdu'l-Bahá, Baháʼu'lláh's son and appointed successor.
Administration[edit | edit source]
The Baháʼí community is governed by elected bodies known as Spiritual Assemblies at the local, national, and international levels. The supreme governing body is the Universal House of Justice, located in Haifa, Israel.
Practices[edit | edit source]
Baháʼí practices include daily prayer, meditation, and the observance of an annual 19-day fast. Baháʼís also participate in community-building activities, such as children's classes, junior youth groups, and study circles.
Holy Days[edit | edit source]
Baháʼís observe several holy days, including Naw-Rúz (New Year), the Festival of Ridván, and the anniversaries of the births and deaths of the Báb and Baháʼu'lláh.
Demographics[edit | edit source]
The Baháʼí Faith has an estimated 5-7 million adherents worldwide. It is one of the most geographically widespread religions, with significant communities in India, Africa, Latin America, and the United States.
