Barium Selenate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula BaSeO4. It is a white crystalline solid that is insoluble in water. It is used in the manufacture of glass, ceramics, and pigments, and as a rodenticide.

Barium selenate is a white crystalline solid. It is insoluble in water, but soluble in strong mineral acids. The compound decomposes upon heating, producing toxic fumes of selenium and barium compounds.

Barium selenate is produced by the reaction of barium chloride with sodium selenate. The resulting precipitate is filtered, washed, and dried.

Barium selenate is used in the manufacture of glass and ceramics, where it acts as a flux and increases the brightness and durability of the finished product. It is also used as a pigment in paints and inks, and as a rodenticide.

Safety[edit | edit source]

Barium selenate is toxic if ingested or inhaled. It can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, and in severe cases, can lead to paralysis or death. It is also harmful to the environment, and can cause damage to aquatic life.
