Bayero University Kano (BUK) is a prominent public university located in Kano, Nigeria. It was established in 1977, following the reformation of the Ahmadu Bello College into a full-fledged university. Bayero University Kano traces its origins back to 1960 when it started as Ahmadu Bello College, named after the Sardauna of Sokoto, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello, the first premier of Northern Nigeria. The college was affiliated with the University of Ibadan and was aimed at providing higher education in the northern region of Nigeria. In 1975, it was upgraded to a university college and was affiliated with Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Two years later, in 1977, it gained full autonomy as Bayero University.

The university's main campus is located in Kano, the capital city of Kano State, one of the commercial and educational centers in Northern Nigeria.
