Belt conveyor

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Belt Conveyor is a common means of transport used in various industries. It is a system designed to transport bulk materials or discrete items from one place to another. The system consists of a belt that is resistant to the transport of solid materials. Belt Conveyors are used in self-unloading bulk freighters and in live bottom trucks.

History[edit | edit source]

The first belt conveyor systems were used during the early 19th century. The system was used to transport bulk materials such as coal and grains. The concept of a belt conveyor was not new, however, as it was used in earlier times to move goods and resources in factories.

Design and Operation[edit | edit source]

A belt conveyor system consists of two or more pulleys, with a continuous loop of material - the conveyor belt - that rotates about them. One or both of the pulleys are powered, moving the belt and the material on the belt forward. The powered pulley is called the drive pulley while the unpowered pulley is called the idler pulley.

Types of Belt Conveyors[edit | edit source]

There are several types of belt conveyors including: flat belt conveyors, troughed belt conveyors, long belt conveyors, and short belt conveyors. Each type has its own specific use in the industry.

Applications[edit | edit source]

Belt conveyors are used in a wide range of industries including: mining, agriculture, automotive, aerospace, construction, and food processing. They are also used in the postal service and in the airport baggage handling system.

Safety and Regulations[edit | edit source]

There are specific safety regulations that must be followed when operating a belt conveyor. These regulations are set by various safety organizations and government bodies.
