The website is free for anyone to use, but also offers Bible Gateway Plus for a fee, which provides additional resources for study and learning.

History[edit | edit source]

BibleGateway.com was launched in 1993 by Nick Hengeveld, a student at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The website grew rapidly and was acquired by Zondervan in 2008, which is a division of HarperCollins. In 2011, the website was revamped to include new features such as the ability to search the Bible in all its versions and translations, and to create a personal account to track one's progress and notes.

Features[edit | edit source]

The main feature of BibleGateway.com is its searchable online Bible that allows users to search for specific passages, keywords, or topics. Users can also browse the Bible book by book. The website also offers various reading plans for those who wish to read the Bible in a year, in chronological order, or other methods.

In addition to the Bible, BibleGateway.com also offers a variety of other resources for study and learning. These include a verse of the day, devotionals, Bible commentaries, audio Bibles, video interviews with Bible scholars, and a blog.

Bible Gateway Plus[edit | edit source]

Bible Gateway Plus is a subscription service offered by the website that provides access to additional resources. These include digital study Bibles, commentaries, reference works, and non-fiction books. Subscribers can also take notes and highlight text within the digital Bibles.

Reception[edit | edit source]

BibleGateway.com is widely used and has been positively received for its wide range of resources and user-friendly interface. It is often recommended as a tool for Bible study and research.
