Bill McColl
Bill McColl (April 2, 1930 – November 9, 2018) was an American football player and physician. He played as an end in the National Football League (NFL) for the Chicago Bears and later pursued a career in medicine.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Bill McColl was born in San Diego, California. He attended Hoover High School where he excelled in both academics and athletics. McColl went on to attend Stanford University, where he played college football for the Stanford Cardinal and was a standout player.
College Career[edit | edit source]
At Stanford, McColl was a two-time All-American and played a key role in the team's success. He was known for his exceptional catching ability and athleticism. McColl graduated from Stanford in 1952 with a degree in biology.
Professional Football Career[edit | edit source]
McColl was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the third round of the 1952 NFL Draft. He played for the Bears from 1952 to 1959. During his NFL career, McColl was known for his reliable hands and strong blocking skills. He was selected to the Pro Bowl twice, in 1953 and 1958.

After retiring from professional football, McColl pursued a career in medicine. He attended the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and became an orthopedic surgeon. McColl practiced medicine in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years, contributing significantly to the field of orthopedics.

Bill McColl was married and had several children, including Milt McColl, who also played in the NFL. McColl was active in his community and involved in various charitable activities.
