Also called bitter melon, bitter gourd is a vegetable used in India and other Asian countries. The fruit and seeds are used as food and also to make medicine.

Purported medicine use

Although the bitter melon is used for diabetes, stomach and intestinal problems, to promote menstruation, and many other conditions, there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.
