Bob Saget

Robert Lane Saget (May 17, 1956 – January 9, 2022) was an American stand-up comedian, actor, and television host. He was best known for his role as Danny Tanner on the ABC sitcom Full House (1987–1995) and its Netflix sequel Fuller House (2016–2020). Saget was also the original host of America's Funniest Home Videos (1989–1997) and the voice of the future Ted Mosby on the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014).

Early Life

Saget was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to a Jewish family. He attended Temple University's film school, where he created a black-and-white film entitled Through Adam's Eyes, which received an award of merit in the Student Academy Awards.

Career

Stand-Up Comedy

Saget began his career in stand-up comedy, performing in clubs and on television. His comedy was known for its edgy and often adult-oriented humor, which contrasted with his family-friendly television persona.

Television

Saget's breakthrough role came in 1987 when he was cast as Danny Tanner on Full House. The show was a major success and became a cultural phenomenon. He reprised his role in the sequel series Fuller House, which aired on Netflix from 2016 to 2020.

Saget directed the 1996 TV movie For Hope, inspired by the life of his sister, Gay Saget, who died from scleroderma. He also directed the 1998 feature film Dirty Work, starring Norm Macdonald and Artie Lange.

Personal Life

Saget was married to Sherri Kramer from 1982 to 1997, and they had three daughters. He married Kelly Rizzo in 2018. Saget was involved in various charitable activities, particularly those related to scleroderma research.

Death

Saget was found dead in his hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida, on January 9, 2022. The cause of death was determined to be head trauma, likely from an accidental fall.
