Bodø is a town and a municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Salten. The town of Bodø is the administrative centre of the municipality. Bodø is located just north of the Arctic Circle and is known for its beautiful natural surroundings, including the nearby Saltstraumen maelstrom.

Bodø was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838. The town was originally a small trading post, but it grew rapidly in the 19th century due to its strategic location and the development of the fishing industry. During World War II, Bodø was heavily bombed by the Luftwaffe, resulting in significant destruction. The town was rebuilt after the war, and it has since developed into a modern urban area.

Bodø is situated on a peninsula in the northern part of Norway, with the Norwegian Sea to the west and the Skjerstad Fjord to the east. The municipality covers an area of 1,395 square kilometers. Conversely, the town experiences polar nights in the winter, with very limited daylight from early December to early January.

The town is an important hub for the fishing industry, with several fish processing plants and a busy harbor. Additionally, Bodø is a key port for the Hurtigruten coastal ferry service, which travels along the Norwegian coast from Bergen to Kirkenes.
