Boston Emergency Medical Services
Boston Emergency Medical Services (BEMS) is the primary provider of emergency medical services in the city of Boston, Massachusetts. BEMS is a public safety agency responding to 911 calls and providing emergency medical care and transportation. It is a bureau of the Boston Public Health Commission.

Boston Emergency Medical Services traces its roots back to 1892, when the Boston City Hospital established a hospital-based ambulance service. The modern form of BEMS was established in 1973, when the city's hospital-based ambulance services were consolidated into a single, public entity.
Operations[edit | edit source]
BEMS operates from a number of stations located throughout the city. The agency responds to a wide range of medical emergencies, including cardiac arrest, trauma, and respiratory distress. BEMS also provides medical support at major public events in the city.
Personnel and Equipment[edit | edit source]
BEMS personnel are trained to the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic levels. The agency operates a fleet of ambulances and rapid response vehicles equipped with advanced life support (ALS) equipment.
Training and Education[edit | edit source]
BEMS provides ongoing training and education for its personnel. This includes continuing education courses, skills refreshers, and training in new procedures and technologies.
Community Involvement[edit | edit source]
BEMS is actively involved in the community, providing public education on CPR and first aid, as well as participating in community events and health fairs.
