Brian Lamb (born October 9, 1941) is an American journalist and the founder, executive chairman, and retired CEO of C-SPAN, an American cable network that provides coverage of the United States federal government and other public affairs programming. Lamb is known for his commitment to providing unfiltered access to government proceedings and for his distinctive interviewing style.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Brian Lamb was born in Lafayette, Indiana. He attended Purdue University, where he earned a degree in speech in 1963. During his time at Purdue, Lamb was involved in the university's radio station, which sparked his interest in broadcasting.

Career[edit | edit source]

After graduating from Purdue, Lamb joined the United States Navy, where he served as a communications officer. Following his military service, he worked as a freelance reporter for U.S. News & World Report and later as a media adviser to the White House during the administration of President Lyndon B. Johnson.

Founding of C-SPAN[edit | edit source]

In 1979, Lamb founded C-SPAN (Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network) with the mission of providing continuous coverage of government proceedings without commentary or analysis. The network initially broadcasted live coverage of the United States House of Representatives and later expanded to include the United States Senate and other public affairs programming.

Lamb is known for his straightforward and unassuming interviewing style. He often asks short, direct questions and allows his guests to speak at length without interruption. This approach has earned him a reputation for fairness and objectivity.
