Brian P. Monahan

Brian P. Monahan is an American physician and Rear Admiral in the United States Navy. He is best known for his role as the Attending Physician of the United States Congress, a position he has held since 2009.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Monahan was born and raised in the United States. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-Medical Studies. He then attended the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), where he received his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing his medical education, Monahan joined the United States Navy. He served in various roles, including as a medical officer and internist. He also completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the National Naval Medical Center.

In 2009, Monahan was appointed as the Attending Physician of the United States Congress. In this role, he provides medical care to members of the United States Congress and the Supreme Court of the United States. He also advises on public health matters and oversees the Office of the Attending Physician.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Monahan is married and has two children. He is a practicing Roman Catholic.

Honors and Awards[edit | edit source]

Monahan has received numerous awards and honors for his service, including the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.
