Bristol County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in the United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 565,217, making it the sixth-most populous county in Massachusetts. The county seat is Taunton, and its largest city is New Bedford. Bristol County is part of the Providence metropolitan area as well as the Greater Boston area.

Bristol County was created by the Plymouth Colony on June 2, 1685, and named after Bristol, England. The area of Bristol County was originally part of a larger jurisdiction known as the Plymouth Colony, which was merged with the Massachusetts Bay Colony under a single royal charter in the late 17th century. The county has a rich history, with its cities and towns playing significant roles in the early settlement of America, the American Revolutionary War, and the whaling industry of the 19th century.

Bristol County is located in southeastern Massachusetts and is bordered by Norfolk County to the north, Plymouth County to the northeast, Bristol County, Rhode Island and Newport County, Rhode Island to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. The county has a total area of 691 square miles, of which 553 square miles is land and 138 square miles (20%) is water.
