Brooklyn Brewery
Brooklyn Brewery is a brewery located in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. It was founded in 1988 by Steve Hindy and Tom Potter. The brewery is known for its wide range of craft beers and has played a significant role in the American craft beer movement.
History[edit | edit source]
The idea for Brooklyn Brewery was conceived by Steve Hindy, a former Associated Press correspondent, and Tom Potter, a former banker. Hindy developed an interest in homebrewing while stationed in the Middle East and decided to pursue the craft upon returning to the United States. He partnered with Potter, and together they founded the brewery in 1988.
The brewery initially operated out of a facility in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and its first beer, Brooklyn Lager, quickly gained popularity. The brewery's logo, designed by Milton Glaser, became iconic and helped establish the brand's identity.
Products[edit | edit source]
Brooklyn Brewery offers a diverse range of beers, including:
- Brooklyn Lager: An American Amber Lager that is the brewery's flagship beer.
- Brooklyn East IPA: An India Pale Ale with a blend of American and English hops.
- Brooklyn Brown Ale: A Brown Ale with a rich malt character.
- Brooklyn Sorachi Ace: A Saison brewed with Sorachi Ace hops.
- Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout: A Russian Imperial Stout with a strong chocolate flavor.
The brewery also produces seasonal and limited-edition beers, as well as collaborations with other breweries and organizations.
