Bruce L. Gillingham
Bruce L. Gillingham is a Rear Admiral in the United States Navy. He currently serves as the Surgeon General of the United States Navy, a position he has held since November 1, 2019.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Gillingham was born in San Diego, California. He attended the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He later received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland.
Military Career[edit | edit source]
Gillingham's military career began when he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. He completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. He has held various leadership positions throughout his career, including serving as the Commanding Officer of the Naval Hospital Jacksonville and the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.
