Bryan Fogel is an American film director, producer, screenwriter, and playwright. He is best known for his work on the documentary film Icarus, which won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2018.

Bryan Fogel was born in Denver, Colorado. He attended the University of Colorado Boulder, where he studied communications and theater. After graduating, Fogel moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

Fogel began his career in the entertainment industry as a stand-up comedian and actor. He co-wrote and starred in the off-Broadway play Jewtopia, which ran for over three years and was later adapted into a film.

Icarus[edit | edit source]

Fogel gained international recognition with the release of Icarus, a documentary that explores the world of doping in sports. The film initially started as an investigation into the use of performance-enhancing drugs in amateur cycling but evolved into a much larger story involving Grigory Rodchenkov, the former head of Russia's anti-doping laboratory. Icarus premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017 and was later acquired by Netflix. The film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2018.

In 2020, Fogel released The Dissident, a documentary about the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi Arabian journalist and critic of the Saudi government. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and received critical acclaim for its in-depth investigation and compelling storytelling.
