Bryn Mawr is a census-designated place (CDP) located across Radnor Township in Delaware and Lower Merion Township in Montgomery counties in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is located just west of Philadelphia along Lancaster Avenue (U.S. Route 30), which is part of the historic Philadelphia Main Line.

History[edit | edit source]

Bryn Mawr is named after an estate near Dolgellau in Wales that belonged to Rowland Ellis, a Quaker who emigrated in 1686 to escape religious persecution. The town was originally known as "Humphreysville" and was renamed in 1869 when the Pennsylvania Railroad established a station there.

The community is served by Bryn Mawr Hospital, a major hospital that is part of the Main Line Health system. The hospital provides a wide range of medical services and is a key healthcare provider in the region.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Bryn Mawr is accessible via the SEPTA Regional Rail's Paoli/Thorndale Line, which provides service to Center City Philadelphia. The area is also served by several SEPTA bus routes.
