Bushwick, Brooklyn

Bushwick is a neighborhood in the northern part of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. It is bordered by Williamsburg to the west, Bedford–Stuyvesant to the south, Ridgewood to the northeast, and East Williamsburg to the northwest. Bushwick is part of Brooklyn Community Board 4.

Bushwick was first settled in the 17th century by the Dutch, who named it "Boswijck," meaning "little town in the woods" or "heavy woods" in Dutch. The area was later anglicized to Bushwick. During the 19th century, Bushwick became a thriving community with a significant number of German immigrants, who established breweries and factories.
