Byron Dafoe (born February 25, 1971) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Washington Capitals, Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins, and Atlanta Thrashers.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Dafoe was born in Worthing, England, but grew up in British Columbia, Canada. He began playing hockey at a young age and quickly developed a reputation as a talented goaltender.

Junior Career[edit | edit source]

Dafoe played junior hockey for the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League (WHL). His impressive performances in the WHL led to him being drafted 35th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft.

Professional Career[edit | edit source]

Washington Capitals[edit | edit source]

Dafoe made his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals during the 1992-93 NHL season. He played sporadically for the Capitals over the next few seasons, often splitting time between the NHL and the American Hockey League (AHL).

Los Angeles Kings[edit | edit source]

In 1995, Dafoe was traded to the Los Angeles Kings. He played two seasons with the Kings, establishing himself as a reliable starting goaltender.

Boston Bruins[edit | edit source]

Dafoe's most successful years came after he was traded to the Boston Bruins in 1997. During his tenure with the Bruins, he was known for his consistent play and was a finalist for the Vezina Trophy in the 1998-99 NHL season. He helped lead the Bruins to several playoff appearances.

Atlanta Thrashers[edit | edit source]

Dafoe signed with the Atlanta Thrashers in 2002. He played two seasons with the Thrashers before retiring from professional hockey in 2004.

Dafoe represented Team Canada in international competition, including the 1999 IIHF World Championship.

After retiring from professional hockey, Dafoe has been involved in various business ventures and charitable activities. He is also known for his interest in classic cars.
