Cần Thơ
Cần Thơ is the fourth largest city in Vietnam, and the largest city in the Mekong Delta. It is noted for its floating markets, rice paper-making village, and picturesque rural canals. It had a population of 1.2 million as of 2019, and has an area of 1,439 square kilometers.

Cần Thơ was founded in the 18th century and was originally part of the Khmer Empire before becoming part of Vietnam in the 19th century. The city was officially established in 1879 and became an important military and economic center during the Vietnam War.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Cần Thơ is located on the south bank of the Hậu River, a branch of the Mekong. It is approximately 169 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City. Cần Thơ’s climate is tropical and monsoonal with two seasons: rainy, from May to November; and dry, from December to April.

The city is an important center of rice, fruit and fish production. It is known as the "western capital" and is a hub of the Mekong Delta. The economy is based on agriculture, primarily rice, fruit and fish production. Cần Thơ is also noted for its floating markets, where people sell and buy things on the river, as well as its rice paper-making village.

Cần Thơ is home to the Cần Thơ University, one of the important universities in Vietnam. It also has many other educational institutions.
Transportation[edit | edit source]
Cần Thơ is served by Cần Thơ International Airport, which is located in the city center. The city also has a network of roads, bridges and ferries that connect it to other parts of the country.
