Carol Christine Hilaria Pounder (born December 25, 1952), known professionally as CCH Pounder, is a Guyanese-American actress. She has appeared in numerous films, television series, and stage productions. Pounder is best known for her roles in the television series The Shield, ER, Warehouse 13, and NCIS: New Orleans.

Early life

Pounder was born in Georgetown, British Guiana (now Guyana). She was raised on a sugar plantation and later moved to the United States where she attended a boarding school in New York. She later studied at the Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.

Career

Pounder made her acting debut in the film All That Jazz in 1979. She gained recognition for her role as Detective Claudette Wyms in the FX police drama series The Shield, which aired from 2002 to 2008. Her performance earned her several award nominations, including an Emmy Award nomination.

In addition to her work on The Shield, Pounder has had recurring roles on ER as Dr. Angela Hicks, The X-Files, and Sons of Anarchy. She also starred in the Syfy series Warehouse 13 as Mrs. Irene Frederic and in NCIS: New Orleans as Dr. Loretta Wade.

Pounder has also appeared in films such as Bagdad Cafe, Avatar, and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

Personal life

Pounder was married to Senegalese anthropologist Boubacar Kone from 1991 until his death in 2016. The couple had three children. Pounder is also an advocate for arts education and has been involved in various charitable activities.
