ER is an American medical drama television series created by Michael Crichton that aired on NBC from September 19, 1994, to April 2, 2009. The series is set in the emergency room (ER) of County General Hospital, a fictional hospital in Chicago, Illinois. It follows the lives of the doctors and nurses working in the ER as they deal with the challenges of their profession and their personal lives.

ER was created by Michael Crichton, who was also a physician and novelist. The show was produced by Constant c Productions and Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Television. John Wells served as the showrunner for the majority of the series' run.

Reception[edit | edit source]

ER received critical acclaim and was a ratings success throughout its run. It won 23 Primetime Emmy Awards and received 124 Emmy nominations. The series also won the George Foster Peabody Award and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

ER is considered one of the greatest television series of all time and has had a significant impact on the medical drama genre. It paved the way for other successful medical dramas such as Grey's Anatomy and House.

Episodes[edit | edit source]

ER aired a total of 331 episodes over 15 seasons. The series finale, titled "And in the End...", aired on April 2, 2009.
