CKLF like MARVEL transmembrane domain containing 7

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

CKLF Like MARVEL Transmembrane Domain Containing 7 (also known as CMTM7) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CMTM7 gene. It is a member of the chemokine-like factor (CKLF) gene superfamily that is expressed in various tissues, including the immune and reproductive systems.

Function[edit | edit source]

CMTM7 is involved in a variety of biological processes. It plays a crucial role in the regulation of cell cycles, apoptosis, and cell differentiation. It also has a significant impact on the immune system, particularly in the regulation of T cells and B cells.

Structure[edit | edit source]

The CMTM7 protein contains a MARVEL domain, a common feature of proteins involved in membrane apposition events. This domain is responsible for the protein's ability to interact with the cell membrane and other proteins.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

Alterations in the CMTM7 gene have been associated with various diseases, including cancer, autoimmune diseases, and infertility. In particular, it has been found to be downregulated in several types of cancer, suggesting a potential role as a tumor suppressor.

Research[edit | edit source]

Research into CMTM7 is ongoing, with studies focusing on its role in disease and potential as a therapeutic target. Its involvement in the immune system and cell cycle regulation makes it a promising area of study for new treatments for cancer and autoimmune diseases.
