Calibrated Automated Thrombogram

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

The Calibrated Automated Thrombogram (CAT) is a laboratory test used to measure the clotting properties of blood. It is used to evaluate the risk of blood clotting disorders, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). The CAT test uses a machine that measures the time it takes for blood to form a clot and the strength of that clot. The results of the test are then compared to normal values to assess the risk of clotting disorders. The CAT test is considered to be a more sensitive and specific test than traditional clotting assays.
