Campbell County is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 39,885. Its county seat is Jacksboro. The county was formed in 1806 from parts of Anderson and Claiborne counties and named in honor of Colonel Arthur Campbell, a Revolutionary War soldier.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 498 square miles (1,290 km²), of which 480 square miles (1,240 km²) is land and 18 square miles (47 km²) (3.6%) is water. The county is part of the Cumberland Plateau and is characterized by its mountainous terrain.

The racial makeup of the county was 97.5% White, 0.6% Black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.2% Asian, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.1% of the population.
