Canadian Cat Association
The Canadian Cat Association (CCA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the registration and promotion of pedigree cats in Canada. Founded in 1960, the CCA is one of the primary cat registries in the country, alongside the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) and The International Cat Association (TICA).
History[edit | edit source]
The Canadian Cat Association was established in 1960 by a group of cat enthusiasts who sought to create a national registry for pedigree cats in Canada. The organization aimed to promote the breeding and showing of purebred cats, as well as to educate the public about responsible cat ownership.
Objectives[edit | edit source]
The main objectives of the CCA include:
- Maintaining a registry of pedigree cats in Canada.
- Promoting the breeding of healthy and well-tempered cats.
- Organizing and sanctioning cat shows across the country.
- Educating the public about responsible cat ownership and breeding practices.
- Supporting research and initiatives that benefit feline health and welfare.
Cat Shows[edit | edit source]
The CCA sanctions numerous cat shows throughout Canada each year. These shows provide a platform for breeders to showcase their cats and for the public to learn more about different breeds. The shows are judged by certified judges who evaluate the cats based on breed standards.
Breed Standards[edit | edit source]
The CCA maintains breed standards for all recognized breeds of cats. These standards outline the ideal physical and temperamental characteristics for each breed. Breeders and judges use these standards as guidelines to ensure that cats meet the criteria for their respective breeds.
Membership[edit | edit source]
Membership in the CCA is open to anyone interested in cats, whether they are breeders, exhibitors, or simply cat lovers. Members receive benefits such as access to the CCA's registry services, discounts on show entry fees, and subscriptions to the CCA's publications.
Publications[edit | edit source]
The CCA publishes a quarterly magazine called Canadian Cat Fancier, which features articles on cat care, breeding, and showing, as well as news and updates from the association.
Health and Welfare[edit | edit source]
The CCA is committed to the health and welfare of cats. The organization supports research into feline diseases and promotes responsible breeding practices to ensure the health and well-being of pedigree cats.
