Cannabinol

Cannabinol

Cannabinol (CBN) is a cannabinoid found in the Cannabis plant. It is a product of THC degradation and is typically found in small amounts in most cannabis strains.

Chemistry[edit | edit source]

Cannabinol is classified as a phytocannabinoid, with the chemical formula C21H26O2. It is formed from the oxidation of THC, a process which occurs over time and is expedited by exposure to light and heat.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

CBN has a lower psychoactive potency than other cannabinoids such as THC and CBD. It is thought to have a mild psychoactive effect, although this is not well understood. CBN is believed to enhance the effects of THC, a phenomenon known as the entourage effect.

Medical uses[edit | edit source]

While research into the medical uses of CBN is still in its early stages, preliminary studies suggest it may have potential therapeutic benefits. These include pain relief, anti-inflammatory effects, antibacterial properties, and potential benefits for those with sleep disorders.

Legal status[edit | edit source]

The legal status of CBN varies by country and in some cases, by state or province. In many jurisdictions, it is regulated under the same laws as cannabis and other cannabinoids.
