Carlos Albizu Miranda
Carlos Albizu Miranda (September 16, 1920 – October 6, 1984) was a prominent Puerto Rican psychologist and educator. He is best known for his contributions to the field of clinical psychology and for founding the Carlos Albizu University.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Carlos Albizu Miranda was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He completed his early education in Puerto Rico before moving to the United States to pursue higher education. Albizu Miranda earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Puerto Rico and later obtained his Master's degree and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Purdue University.

After completing his education, Albizu Miranda returned to Puerto Rico, where he began his career as a clinical psychologist. He worked in various capacities, including as a professor and researcher. His work focused on the psychological needs of the Hispanic population, and he was a pioneer in developing culturally relevant psychological practices.

In 1966, Albizu Miranda founded the Carlos Albizu University, originally known as the Instituto Psicológico de Puerto Rico. The university was established to provide higher education opportunities in psychology and other related fields, with a particular emphasis on serving the Hispanic community. The institution has campuses in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Miami, Florida.
