Carter House Inn
The Carter House Inn is a renowned boutique hotel located in Eureka, California. Established in 1982, the inn is known for its luxurious accommodations and exceptional service. The inn was designed by Mark Carter, who aimed to recreate the historic Murphy House that was destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
History[edit | edit source]
The Carter House Inn was inspired by the original Murphy House, a Victorian mansion designed by the famous architect Samuel Newsom. The Murphy House was a significant architectural landmark before it was lost in the 1906 earthquake. Mark Carter, an architect and wine enthusiast, discovered the original blueprints and decided to rebuild the house in Eureka, a city known for its well-preserved Victorian architecture.
Architecture[edit | edit source]
The inn features a blend of Victorian and modern design elements. The exterior is characterized by intricate woodwork, gabled roofs, and large bay windows, typical of the Victorian style. The interior boasts elegant furnishings, antique decor, and modern amenities, providing a comfortable and luxurious experience for guests.
Accommodations[edit | edit source]
The Carter House Inn offers 32 rooms, each uniquely decorated with a mix of antique and contemporary furnishings. The rooms are equipped with modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and luxurious bedding. Some rooms also feature fireplaces and whirlpool tubs.
Dining[edit | edit source]
The inn is home to the renowned Restaurant 301, which offers a fine dining experience with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant is known for its extensive wine list, curated by Mark Carter, who is also a celebrated winemaker. The wine list features selections from Carter's own winery as well as other prestigious vineyards.
Events and Activities[edit | edit source]
The Carter House Inn hosts various events throughout the year, including wine tastings, cooking classes, and special holiday celebrations. The inn's location in Eureka provides easy access to local attractions such as the Sequoia Park Zoo, the Carson Mansion, and the Humboldt Botanical Gardens.
