Cefroxadine synthesis

Cefroxadine is a cephalosporin antibiotic used in the treatment of various bacterial infections. It belongs to the first generation of cephalosporins, which are a class of beta-lactam antibiotics similar in structure and mechanism of action to the penicillins. Cefroxadine works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell death. It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria, making it useful in treating conditions such as pharyngitis, urinary tract infections, and skin infections.

Cefroxadine exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall. By inhibiting these PBPs, cefroxadine disrupts the final stages of bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. This mechanism is similar to other beta-lactam antibiotics, which are known for their ability to target and disrupt the bacterial cell wall.

The pharmacokinetics of cefroxadine involve its absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion. After oral administration, cefroxadine is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
