Charles E. de M. Sajous was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1852. He was of French descent, and his family had a strong tradition in medicine. Sajous pursued his medical education at the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where he graduated in 1878. His early education laid the foundation for his future contributions to the medical field.
Career[edit | edit source]
After completing his medical degree, Sajous began his career in otolaryngology, the study of diseases of the ear, nose, and throat. He quickly gained recognition for his expertise and became a professor of laryngology at the University of Pennsylvania.
Sajous was a pioneer in the study of the endocrine system, and he was one of the first to propose that the pituitary gland played a crucial role in regulating the body's hormonal balance. His work in this area was groundbreaking and laid the groundwork for future research in endocrinology.
Contributions to Medical Literature[edit | edit source]
Sajous was a prolific writer and editor. He is best known for his multi-volume work, "The Annual of the Universal Medical Sciences," which was a comprehensive review of medical knowledge at the time. This work was widely used by physicians and medical students as a reference.
