Charles Graves "Chase" Untermeyer (born March 7, 1946) is an American politician and diplomat who served as the United States Ambassador to Qatar from 2004 to 2007 under President George W. Bush. He has held various positions in government and has been involved in public service for several decades.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Chase Untermeyer was born in Long Branch, New Jersey. He attended Harvard University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. During his time at Harvard, he was involved in various student activities and developed an interest in public service.

Untermeyer began his career in public service as a legislative assistant to then-Congressman George H. W. Bush. He later served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1976 to 1981. During his tenure, he focused on issues such as education and healthcare.

Federal Government Service[edit | edit source]

In the 1980s, Untermeyer held several key positions in the federal government. He served as the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs from 1984 to 1988. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing personnel policies and programs for the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps.

Untermeyer also served as the Director of the Voice of America from 1989 to 1991, where he was responsible for overseeing the U.S. government's international broadcasting service.

Ambassador to Qatar[edit | edit source]

In 2004, President George W. Bush appointed Untermeyer as the United States Ambassador to Qatar. During his tenure, he worked to strengthen the diplomatic relationship between the United States and Qatar, focusing on issues such as regional security and economic cooperation. He served in this role until 2007.

After his tenure as ambassador, Untermeyer continued to be active in public service and academia. He has written several books on his experiences in government and diplomacy and has been a frequent speaker on issues related to international relations and public policy.
