Chlöe Charlotte Swarbrick (born 26 June 1994) is a New Zealand politician and member of the New Zealand House of Representatives. She is a member of the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand and has been serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) since 2017. Swarbrick is known for her advocacy on issues such as mental health, drug reform, and climate change.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Swarbrick was born in Auckland, New Zealand. She attended Epsom Girls' Grammar School and later studied at the University of Auckland, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Philosophy.
Career[edit | edit source]
Before entering politics, Swarbrick worked as a journalist and entrepreneur. She co-founded several businesses, including a cafe and a digital marketing company. She also gained recognition as a journalist, contributing to various media outlets.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Swarbrick first gained national attention in 2016 when she ran for the Auckland mayoralty at the age of 22. Although she did not win, her campaign was notable for its grassroots approach and innovative use of social media.
In 2017, Swarbrick was elected to the New Zealand Parliament as a list MP for the Green Party. She has since been a vocal advocate for progressive policies, particularly in the areas of mental health, drug reform, and climate change. Swarbrick has also been involved in legislative efforts to address issues such as housing affordability and social justice.

One of Swarbrick's most notable achievements in Parliament was her successful advocacy for the Misuse of Drugs (Medicinal Cannabis) Amendment Act 2018, which allowed for the use of medicinal cannabis in New Zealand.
