(Redirected from Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium)

Tanacetum cinerariifolium, also known as the Dalmatian pyrethrum, is a perennial plant species in the Asteraceae family. It is native to the Dalmatia region of Croatia, and is known for its insecticidal properties.

Description[edit | edit source]

Tanacetum cinerariifolium is a perennial herb that grows up to 45 cm in height. The leaves are deeply divided, greyish-green, and have a distinctive, pungent aroma. The flowers are daisy-like, with white petals and yellow centers.

Cultivation[edit | edit source]

The plant prefers well-drained soil and full sun. It is drought-tolerant and can be propagated by seeds, cuttings, or division. The plant is harvested when in full bloom, usually in early summer.

Uses[edit | edit source]

The flowers of Tanacetum cinerariifolium are used to produce pyrethrum, a potent natural insecticide. Pyrethrum is non-toxic to humans and animals, but it is highly effective against a wide range of insects, including mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks. It is used in a variety of products, from household insect sprays to pet shampoos.

Research[edit | edit source]

Research into the properties of Tanacetum cinerariifolium and its potential uses is ongoing. Studies have shown that it may have potential as a natural pesticide, and it is being investigated for its potential use in organic farming.
