Clayton Yeutter
American politician and lawyer
Clayton Keith Yeutter (December 10, 1930 – March 4, 2017) was an American politician and lawyer who served as the United States Secretary of Agriculture under President George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1991. He also served as the United States Trade Representative from 1985 to 1989 under President Ronald Reagan.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Yeutter was born in Eustis, Nebraska. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in animal husbandry from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He later received a Juris Doctor from the same institution.

Early career[edit | edit source]
Yeutter began his career in agriculture and law, working in various capacities before entering public service. He held several positions in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and was involved in agricultural policy and trade issues.
United States Trade Representative[edit | edit source]
In 1985, Yeutter was appointed as the United States Trade Representative by President Ronald Reagan. During his tenure, he played a significant role in negotiating trade agreements and addressing trade disputes.
United States Secretary of Agriculture[edit | edit source]
In 1989, President George H. W. Bush appointed Yeutter as the United States Secretary of Agriculture. He served in this role until 1991, focusing on agricultural policy, trade, and rural development.
Later life and death[edit | edit source]
After leaving public office, Yeutter continued to be active in agricultural and trade issues. He passed away on March 4, 2017, in Potomac, Maryland.
