Clocortolone
Clocortolone is a corticosteroid that is used in dermatology to treat various skin disorders. It is a medium potency corticosteroid and is applied topically.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
Clocortolone is a synthetic corticosteroid and works by reducing inflammation and suppressing the immune response in the skin. It is a medium potency corticosteroid, which means it is less potent than high potency corticosteroids like betamethasone and clobetasol, but more potent than low potency corticosteroids like hydrocortisone.
Uses[edit | edit source]
Clocortolone is used to treat a variety of skin conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, and seborrheic dermatitis. It is also used to treat rashes, itching, and swelling caused by these conditions.
Side effects[edit | edit source]
Like all corticosteroids, clocortolone can cause side effects. These can include skin thinning, bruising, stretch marks, and changes in skin color. In rare cases, it can also cause more serious side effects like adrenal suppression and Cushing's syndrome.
Precautions[edit | edit source]
Before using clocortolone, patients should inform their doctor if they have any allergies, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have any other medical conditions. It should not be used on the face, underarms, or groin area unless directed by a doctor.
