Containment is an American drama limited television series, based on the Belgian series Cordon. The series was developed by Julie Plec and aired on The CW. The show premiered on April 19, 2016, and concluded on July 19, 2016.

Containment follows the lives of people in Atlanta, Georgia, after a deadly epidemic breaks out and a large urban quarantine is enforced, leaving those stuck on the inside to fight for their lives while local and federal officials desperately search for a cure. The series explores the social, political, and emotional ramifications of a sudden and deadly outbreak.

  • David Gyasi as Major Alex "Lex" Carnahan, a police officer who is tasked with maintaining order within the quarantine zone.
  • Christina Moses as Jana Mayfield, Lex's girlfriend who is trapped inside the cordon.
  • Chris Wood as Officer Jake Riley, Lex's best friend and fellow officer who is also trapped inside.
  • Claudia Black as Dr. Sabine Lommers, a high-ranking official at the CDC.
  • Kristen Gutoskie as Katie Frank, a school teacher who is trapped inside the cordon with her students.
  • George Young as Dr. Victor Cannerts, the CDC researcher who is trying to find a cure for the virus.

Containment consists of one season with a total of 13 episodes. Each episode delves deeper into the lives of the characters as they navigate the challenges posed by the quarantine and the spreading virus.

The series was developed by Julie Plec, known for her work on The Vampire Diaries. Containment was produced by My So-Called Company, Warner Bros. Television, and CBS Television Studios. The show was filmed in Atlanta, Georgia, which also serves as the setting for the series.

Reception[edit | edit source]

Containment received mixed to positive reviews from critics. The series was praised for its intense and gripping storyline, as well as the performances of the cast. However, some critics felt that the show did not bring anything new to the genre of epidemic dramas.

Cancellation[edit | edit source]

Despite its initial success, Containment was not renewed for a second season. The CW announced the cancellation of the series on May 12, 2016, making it a limited series with a conclusive ending.
