Controguerra DOC
Controguerra DOC is a Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC) wine designation for red, white, and rosé wines from the Controguerra region in the Province of Teramo, Abruzzo, Italy. The DOC was established in 1996, and it is the only DOC in the province of Teramo.
History[edit | edit source]
The history of viticulture in the Controguerra region dates back to the Roman Empire, when the area was known for its high-quality wines. The modern Controguerra DOC was established in 1996, following a long tradition of wine production in the region.
Geography and Climate[edit | edit source]
The Controguerra region is located in the northern part of the province of Teramo, in the Abruzzo region of Italy. The area is characterized by its hilly terrain and Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The region's unique geography and climate contribute to the distinctive characteristics of Controguerra DOC wines.
Grape Varieties[edit | edit source]
Controguerra DOC wines can be made from a variety of grape types. Red and rosé wines are primarily made from Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes, while white wines can be made from Trebbiano, Passerina, and Pecorino grapes.
Wine Styles[edit | edit source]
Controguerra DOC wines are known for their high quality and distinctive characteristics. Red wines are typically full-bodied and rich, with flavors of red fruit and spices. White wines are usually light and crisp, with flavors of citrus and green apple. Rosé wines, also known as Cerasuolo, are light and fruity, with flavors of cherry and strawberry.
Production[edit | edit source]
The production of Controguerra DOC wines is regulated by strict guidelines to ensure the quality and authenticity of the wines. These guidelines cover everything from the types of grapes that can be used, to the methods of cultivation and vinification, to the aging process.
