Convidecia

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Convidecia is a genetically modified adenovirus that is used as a vaccine platform by CanSino Biologics. It is used in the COVID-19 vaccine known as Convidecia.

History[edit | edit source]

The Convidecia platform was developed by CanSino Biologics, a biopharmaceutical company based in China. The platform uses a genetically modified adenovirus, which is a type of virus that typically causes mild respiratory illness. The modifications allow the adenovirus to express a protein from the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19. This protein triggers an immune response in the body, which can help to protect against COVID-19.

Use in Vaccines[edit | edit source]

The Convidecia platform is used in the COVID-19 vaccine developed by CanSino Biologics. This vaccine, also known as Convidecia, was granted emergency use authorization in China in February 2021. It has also been authorized for use in other countries, including Mexico, Pakistan, and Hungary.

Efficacy[edit | edit source]

Clinical trials have shown that the Convidecia vaccine is effective at preventing COVID-19. However, its efficacy varies depending on the population and the variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that is circulating.

Safety[edit | edit source]

The Convidecia vaccine is generally safe and well-tolerated. The most common side effects are mild and include pain at the injection site, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, and fever.
