- Crystal City was founded in 1871 and was named after the crystal-clear glass manufactured in the city. The city was originally established as a glass manufacturing center by the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company (now PPG Industries).

- Crystal City is located at 38°13′20″N 90°22′42″W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.57 square miles, of which 4.55 square miles is land and 0.02 square miles is water.

- As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 4,855 people, 1,963 households, and 1,309 families residing in the city.
