- Cuba was founded by George Jamison and Wesley T. Smith in 1857. The city was named after the island of Cuba, reflecting the national interest in that country following the Mexican-American War.

- Cuba is located in the eastern part of Missouri, approximately 80 miles southwest of St. Louis. The city covers a total area of 3.29 square miles, all of it land.

- As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 3,356. The racial makeup of the city was predominantly White, with a small percentage of African American, Native American, Asian, and other races.
