Cuevavirus

Cuevavirus is a genus of viruses in the order Mononegavirales, family Filoviridae, and subfamily Ebolavirus. The genus currently includes one species, Lloviu cuevavirus, which is represented by one virus, Lloviu virus (LLOV).

The genus Cuevavirus is one of the three genera in the subfamily Ebolavirus of the family Filoviridae. The genus includes one species, Lloviu cuevavirus, which is represented by one virus, Lloviu virus (LLOV).

Discovery[edit | edit source]

Cuevavirus was first discovered in 2002 in bats in the Cueva del Lloviu cave in Spain. The virus was named after the cave where it was found.

Hosts[edit | edit source]

The natural reservoir of Cuevavirus is believed to be bats, specifically the species Miniopterus schreibersii.

Pathogenicity[edit | edit source]

The pathogenicity of Cuevavirus in humans is currently unknown. However, it is closely related to the highly pathogenic Ebolavirus and Marburgvirus, which cause severe disease in humans.

Research on Cuevavirus is ongoing to understand its potential threat to human health.
