The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is an American media franchise and shared universe centered on a series of superhero films and television series produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and based on characters that appear in American comic books by DC Comics. The shared universe, much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters.

The success of Man of Steel led to the development of further films, including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Suicide Squad (2016), Wonder Woman (2017), and Justice League (2017).
