DENR (gene)

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

DENR (Differential Expression in Normal and Neoplastic cells Regulator) is a gene that encodes a protein involved in the initiation of protein synthesis. It is located on the short (p) arm of chromosome 12 at position 13.

Function[edit | edit source]

The DENR gene provides instructions for making a protein that is involved in the initiation of protein synthesis. This process is essential for the growth and division (mitosis) of cells. The DENR protein interacts with other proteins to form a complex that plays a critical role in the initiation of protein synthesis.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

Mutations in the DENR gene have been associated with microcephaly, a condition characterized by a smaller than normal head size. Microcephaly is often associated with intellectual disability and developmental delay.
